Why is a casino called "the boat" even when it's not a boat/ship.?

Whenever my friends and relatives go to the casinos they always refer to the casino as "the boat". Now here is Illinois casinos like the Grand Victoria Casino in elgin really are boats. But other Illinois casinos and the casinos in North-West Indian are not boats or ships. So why does everybody call it the boat?
