What would be the best laptop (brand) for me?

I'm getting a laptop this year, and I have to choose the brand and version. I am a beginner/amateur programmer, so the laptop needs to have the capability to run Visual Studio. I'm not a gamer, as in I don't play games like Assassin's Creed on my computer, just Miniclip games. I don't want the laptop to be too big and too heavy, or too small that stuff don't fit on the screen. A DVD drive is not exactly necessary, but better have it than not. A webcam is required. The price should not exceed $1000 dollars. It should have a good sound quality and should be fast.
