NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — A New York state senator and his wife say they were attacked and beaten at a Niagara Falls casino Friday night after the lawmaker tried to break up an argument between two businessmen.
Sen. Mark Grisanti suffered bruised ribs in the altercation. His wife, Maria, was more seriously hurt. She was diagnosed Saturday morning with a concussion and possible broken nose.
Grisanti's chief of staff says the fight happened at the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel Events Center around 11 p.m.
He says the lawmaker and his wife were attacked by a group of men and women after Grisanti tried to stop an argument between two Seneca Nation businessmen.
The Seneca Nation president expresses regret over the attack in a statement. Police have yet to release details.
Grisanti represents a western New York district.
